Somethings Missing

December 16, 2009

I recently heard about Ghibli’s new adaptation of Mary Norton’s Borrowers. I haven’t been keeping with current events all that well, so it was a little nice surprise. The comments under the main article were more than amusing as well:
“Never heard of this “Borrowers” before. Anyone care to give a synopsis?”
“Basically when your shit goes missing, you can blame these fuckers.”

By The Grace of Azeroth

December 14, 2009

Jinpachi finally made the move to go back to WoW. I’m not sure what brought it on. In all honesty I may have still played had not the entire world conspired to make me quit. I was fine with that though.
Anyway, the point of all this, is that he transferred his warlock, Lendri to another server to play with another we know. Unfortunately, he was forced to change his name to Graul. For some reason this just irked me a little. Lendri was a staple of the entire experience of that game for me. It was almost always Lendri and Sotai. Graul was the warrior he started out with (and leveled mostly on the side), but its hard for me to even think of that character as anything else. /rant
Regardless, I got to thinking about my time there, and missed it a little.  Granted, there was a lot I didn’t miss, but the good moments were pretty damn fun.

November Already?!

November 17, 2009

I cant’ believe time has flown so quickly.  I’m left in a daze.

I got the opportunity to watch Hellsing: Ultimate last week.  Everything I’d seen and heard of the show made it look to be a more gratuitous version of the original.  Hell, even Hirano said they ruined his work by not making it “bloody enough.”  After sitting through it, I can say with honesty that it doesn’t compare to the original.  Despite a few regrets I’d had with the original, it managed to capture a great sense of… style.  I would have prefferred it if they focused more on the substance of the story rather than making it “Cool”, but it was still a good show.
I of course picked up Dragon Age: Origins when it released, and though it is not by any means a perfect game, it is quite fun.  I’ve barely progressed in the game at all, despite many hours poured into it, mainly because I spend so much time listening to dialogue between characters.  Bioware went above and beyond on the writing in this one. I was playing Borderlands until its release, which judging from its popularity I have no reason to mention.

I’ve also been in one hell of an “Old School” phase.  Found myself listening fondly to an EarthBound score thanks to a perusal of an unfortunate link.  I’m seriously considering playing through it again now.

Perhaps more strongly is the inexplicable urge to play Popful Mail again.  Truly a game of Epic and Win, I find myself gravitating towards it every two or three years, much like EarthBound and Chrono Trigger.  I know I’m not the first to mention it, but in an age where publishers seem to thrive off re-releases and remakes, it is a damn shame we can only get multiple remakes of Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy.  Where’s the old-school love?  Where’s our Phantasy Star (PSU does NOT count)?  Our Mother series? I know they released a DS version of Y’s Books I &II, but what about the rest?
WHERE IS OUR POPFUL MAIL?!?!

Oh Kotaku…

October 9, 2009

How you amuse me so.  Kotaku released another collection of Bayonetta pics the other day (link).  The more I see of this game the more I dislike it, but I’ll get to that another time.  At some point under the collection of rants about how ugly/hot the main character looked, I stated that I didn’t give a shit about this game, in not so many words.   Coming back to the site after I awoke some hours later, I was apparently banned for it.  Now, I’m not given to crude statements frequently, but considering the tone of the thread, as well as the over-abundance of sexual references, innuendos and insinuations, I don’t see how the words, “Color me I don’t give a shit” really constitute a banning. Seriously, here are some of the gems scattered throughout:  “your ‘wife’ will not let you play this??? Grow a pair douche and slap that bitch straight”;  “it will make any penis look huge”;  “I COULD NEVER LIVE WITH MY HAIR TUCKING ITSELF UNDER MY FANNY AND CURVING UP BETWEEN MY BUTTOCKS. Bayonetta is one unhygienic bitch! Imagine getting vaginal discharge on your face! Geeeez….”; and of course “I think we need more pussy in games; and more dick, for that matter. I love mine, it’s great! And I love cunts, so why would I not want them in games?!”.
Intellectual discourse at its finest.
Moving on, I’ve been a little busy lately, but in between redundant duties I’ve been trying to finish Oblivion, and also had time to try Muramasa: The Demon Blade, which is a fine game by any standard.  Considering the release list in the coming months it seems I’ll have a lot on my plate, and thats not even including the books I’d like to/need to read.

Truer Words…

June 26, 2009

I found this amusing, and aside from the last frame, fairly accurate to the fan-base.

Of Musicals…

This is pretty old, but it never fails to make me smile.

Now if only Disney were this entertaining…
